The Exciting Skillshare Opportunity

As a regular Skillshare user, I’m used to seeing class recommendations in my inbox. But in January, I was genuinely surprised to receive an email from Skillshare about a potential collaboration on UI/UX Design. They’d found my website and believed I could create an engaging design class. I was thrilled—and honestly, a bit shocked!

I’ve always enjoyed taking on new challenges, so I eagerly accepted. The idea of sharing my insights and experience in UI/UX design felt like the perfect way to give back to the design community.

Getting Started with Skillshare

Skillshare made the entire process easy and enjoyable. I was assigned a dedicated contact who guided me from start to finish, helping with everything from choosing a relevant topic to recording and editing tips. Whenever I had questions, they were there to support me. I also received feedback throughout the process, which made everything feel achievable, even though I was navigating new territory.

“Hi Mom, I’m on TV!” – The Recording Process

Then came the moment of truth: recording the class. As an extrovert, I assumed I’d have no problem talking to a camera. But it turns out that addressing everyone and no one simultaneously is surprisingly challenging! It took several takes to feel natural in front of the lens, but as I kept going, I relaxed and started to enjoy the process.

By the end of the day, I felt confident enough to redo some of the early footage, capturing a more polished version. This experience has given me even more respect for those who do this daily—it’s no easy feat!

The Challenge of Editing: Less Is More

Once the recording for the course was complete, I dove into the editing process. It was both exciting and challenging, as I wanted to share everything I knew about mobile UI design! Narrowing down the content was tough because I felt each detail could benefit the students. Fortunately, Skillshare’s team helped guide me, encouraging a balance of depth and conciseness.

After several rounds of trimming, I was thrilled with the final result. Editing helped me craft a focused, engaging course that delivered powerful insights without overwhelming learners. This process was a great reminder that sometimes, less really is more.

Reflecting on the Experience

Collaborating with Skillshare was a rewarding journey, filled with new experiences and skills. I’m grateful to have had the chance to share my knowledge in UI/UX design, and I hope my class will inspire others on their design journey.
